11th-Place Finish for UniFirst Team at Martinsville
Kasey Kahne completed his 26th race at Martinsville Speedway on Sunday in the No. 5 UniFirst Chevrolet SS. The 36-year-old completed three practice sessions and earned the 22nd starting spot. After adjustments early in the race improved the handling of Kahne’s No. 5 machine he was able to work his way forward during the event. With just over 100 laps left in the race, Kahne reached the 11th position where stayed for the remainder of the event in the No. 5 UniFirst Chevy.

For the first quarter of the race Kahne found himself just outside the top 20. During the third caution period of the race on Lap 133, Kahne reported the handling on the No. 5 machine was better. Happy with the car’s handling, crew chief Keith Rodden didn’t call for any adjustments on the UniFirst Chevy and Kahne received four fresh Goodyear tires and fuel. He restarted 21st on Lap 139 and worked his forward and reached the 13th position on Lap 191. The Enumclaw, Washington, native continued to be happy through the fourth caution of the race with the handling of the UniFirst Chevrolet. Kahne made a scheduled green-flag pit stop on Lap 357, and shortly thereafter the fifth caution of the race came out during the pit cycle putting Kahne two laps down. Rodden called for Kahne to take the wave-around to gain one lap back, and he restarted in the 11th position on Lap 386. The 500-lap race went green the rest of the way, and Kahne ultimately finished 11th No. 5 UniFirst Chevrolet SS.
