16th-Place Finish for Kahne at Martinsville
This weekend at Martinsville Speedway Kasey Kahne piloted the No. 5 UniFirst Chevrolet SS. On Saturday, Kahne ended the final practice session in the fifth position. Sunday morning, Kahne completed all three rounds of qualifying and earned the 12th starting spot. During Sunday’s race, which started in the day and ended at night, the 37-year-old ran as high as second before ending the evening 16th in the UniFirst Chevrolet.

Kahne started the race in the 12th position and relayed to the UniFirst crew in Stage 1 that his Chevy was handling good. Kahne reached the second position during the opening stage with the UniFirst Chevy. Stage 1 closed on Lap 130 with the Enumclaw, Washington, native in the eighth position. Kahne pitted during the stage break and started Stage 2 in the ninth spot. During the stage, Kahne reported he needed help with his entry. Stage 2 concluded without any cautions and on the closing stage lap Kahne went one lap down while in the 14th position. He was not the beneficiary of the free pass, and started the final stage in 14th on Lap 271. Fortunately, the caution flag was displayed on Lap 302 and Kahne received the free pass. The UniFirst crew continued to adjust on Kahne’s Chevy to improve the car’s handling. With 100 laps to go in the event, Kahne was in the 17th position. A caution on Lap 499 sent the race into overtime with Kahne in the 16th position. Kahne drove the No. 5 machine to a 16th-place result in a wild finish at the 0.526-mile track.
