16th-Place Finish for Kahne at Watkins Glen
The NASCAR Cup Series completed their final road course race of the season on Sunday. Kasey Kahne piloted the No. 5 Rated Red Chevrolet SS for the first of three races this year. Rated Red will also adorn the car at Bristol Motor Speedway and Charlotte Motor Speedway. Kahne completed two practices on Saturday and qualified the No. 5 Chevrolet SS 19th on Sunday morning. The 37-year-old ran as high as ninth in the Rated Red Chevy before ending the race in the 16th position for Hendrick Motorsports.

Kahne started the 90-lap race in 19th and completed Stage 1 in the ninth position. During the stage break he visited pit road for fuel, four tires and adjustments to the Rated Red Chevy. Varying pit strategies throughout the field, caused Kahne to restart Stage 2 in 19th. With the handling on Kahne’s No. 5 machine improving, he worked his way up to the 11th spot where he ended Stage 2.
Crew chief Keith Rodden made the call for the Enumclaw, Washington, native to stay out during the stage break, allowing Kahne to restart in the 11th position. The green flag waved on Lap 44 for the final segment and a caution came out on Lap 51. Kahne visited pit road from the 10th position to receive service from the Rated Red pit crew. He restarted 15th on Lap 54 and worked his way up to 11th during the long green-flag run before pitting for a few seconds of fuel on Lap 81. When he returned to the track, Kahne was in the 24th spot, but was able to work his way up to 16th in the Rated Red Chevrolet SS, where he ultimately finished.
