Event: Talladega 500
Series: NASCAR Cup Series
Location: Talladega Superspeedway (2.66-mile oval)
Start/Finish: 11th/Eighth (Completed 188 of 188 laps)
Kahne rolled off the grid on Sunday afternoon from the 11th position. He jockeyed for position in the first 55-lap segment and took the green-checkered flag in the 10th spot. After not pitting during the first stage break, the 37-year-old restarted in the first position. Nine laps into the second stage Kahne made a scheduled green-flag pit stop in the No. 5 machine. Unfortunately, a pit miscue caused Kahne to return to the track without the all-important pack of cars to maintain the draft. A timely caution on Lap 80 allowed Kahne to catch up with the rest of the field and work his way back up through the pack. He completed Stage 2 in the 13th position. The Enumclaw, Washington, native started the final stage in the 13th position. With just under 30 laps remaining in the final stage, he was forced to make an unscheduled pit stop for a flat left-front tire. He returned to the 2.66-mile superspeedway one lap down. Fortunately, he was able to return to a lead lap running position after the Lap 172 caution. Kahne was able to battle through multiple red flag periods in the closing laps of the race to finish eighth in the Farmers Insurance Chevrolet.
