2016 NASCAR CharlotteAfter rolling off 12th on Sunday afternoon, Kahne slipped back to the 20th position before the competition caution came out on Lap 25. Due to a fast pit stop by the No. 5 Great Clips pit crew, Kahne gained several positions and restarted 13th on Lap 30. The 36-year-old reached the top 10 on Lap 90. Shortly after making a scheduled green-flag pit stop on Lap 113, Kahne was caught one lap down after the caution came out during the pit cycle. Crew chief Keith Rodden made the call for Kahne to take the wave-around in order to get back on the lead lap. He restarted 14th on lap 124 and reached the top 10 once again on Lap 149. During the long green-flag run and after a scheduled pit stop, Kahne dropped back to the 12th position on Lap 200. After continuing to make adjustments during pit stops, Kahne reached the top 10 again by the sixth caution of the race on Lap 254. Throughout the remaining laps Kahne steadily worked his way forward and was scored fifth during the last restart of the race on Lap 316. Kahne was able to capitalize on the final restart and quickly worked his way up to the third position in the Great Clips Chevy, where he ultimately finished.

Kasey Kahne on Charlotte Motor Speedway:
“We had our work cut out for us today. We got to where we were a lot better the first 30 laps of a run the last three runs there. That helped us get some track position and avoid a couple of those wrecks. Congrats to Jimmie (Johnson) and the Hendrick Engines, and the No. 48 team – those guys did awesome. It was a strong day for our Great Clips Chevrolet. We fought hard and the team had great pit stops all day also.”
