Kahne Involved in Last Lap Accident at Dover
The Great Clips Racing team had a roller coaster weekend at Dover International Speedway. After qualifying 20th on Friday, the team struggled during practice on Saturday to find more speed in the car. In Sunday’s race the team worked hard to give driver Kasey Kahne a strong car. Kahne moved up through the field and kept his No. 5 Great Clips Chevrolet in the top-15 for most of the day, running as high as sixth, until a last-lap accident relegated the team to a 17th place finish.

Kahne started Sunday’s 400-lap event in 20th position. Halfway through Stage 1 of the race he had moved the No. 5 Chevrolet up to 10th position. The Great Clips Racing team continued to work on the car, which was loose in the corners, and by the end of Stage 1, at lap 120, Kahne crossed the finish line in sixth position. Throughout Stage 2 of the race, Kahne remained in contention and took the checkered in 10th place at lap 240.
During the final 160 laps of the race, Kahne raced in the top-15 – moving as high as sixth place. The race went into overtime and the Great Clips team restarted 13th for a green, white, checkered finish. Unfortunately, the No. 5 got caught in a multi-car accident on the last lap of the race, leaving the team to finish 17th in the Great Clips Chevrolet SS.
