Liftmaster Team Finishes 12th at Las Vegas
Kasey Kahne entered Las Vegas with two top-10 finishes to start the 2017 season. Kahne and the No. 5 LiftMaster Chevrolet SS team started the weekend off strong by completing all three practice sessions in the top-10 and qualifying in the seventh position. Kahne took the checkered flag just outside of the top 10 in LiftMaster Chevrolet and finished 12th.
During Stage 1 of the race Kahne was looking for several adjustments to his No. 5 machine after he slipped back a few positions from his seventh-place starting spot. A timely caution came out on Lap 70 and Kahne visited pit road for an extended amount of time allowing the LiftMaster pit crew to make the changes. He restarted 23rd with four laps to go in Stage 1 and ended it in the 20th position. As the laps ticked off during Stage 2, Kahne steadily improved his running position and completed the second stage in 15th. During the final stage of the race Kahne fell back to the top-20, but gradually worked his way back into the top-15 after the LiftMaster crew continued to adjust on the No. 5 Chevrolet. On the last restart of the race, with nine laps to go, Kahne restarted in the 14th position and ultimately finished 12th in the LiftMaster Chevrolet at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

Quoting Kasey Kahne:
“We did something to the car right there at the end of practice and I liked it, but once the tires gave up and it was rough, you start bouncing more and then I didn’t like it at all. It really handicapped our race. We fought for 12th which was solid for the effort. We’ve just got to keep doing better, keep figuring out practice and starting these races a little bit better. But that is on me and the crew chief and engineers just trying to figure it all out.”
