Unscheduled Pit Stop Leaves Great Clips Team with P20 in Bristol
Kasey Kahne made his first stop of the season at Bristol Motor Speedway. After rain lingered at the track all day on Sunday and caused the race to be postponed, Kahne was finally able to climb aboard the No. 5 Great Clips Chevrolet SS for the 500-mile event on Monday afternoon. Precipitation also canceled Friday’s qualifying and the field was set based on owner points, earning Kahne the 17th starting spot. In today’s race, Kahne worked his way up to the top-five at one point during the race before an unscheduled pit stop caused him to lose two laps. With less than 40 laps to go, Kahne made contact with another competitor and brought out the final caution of the race. The Enumclaw, Washington, native ultimately finished 20th in the No. 5 Great Clips Chevrolet SS.

The 37-year-old started Stage 2 in the 19th position, and the No. 5 team continued to make adjustments on the Great Clips Chevrolet to improve the car’s handling. Kahne ended Stage 2 in the 18th position, and started the final stage in 17th. Kahne was able to advance his position in the final stage. He reached the top-10 on the Lap 330 restart and continued to work his way forward. On the Lap 391 restart Kahne went from the seventh position up to third in just one lap. Through the next caution Kahne remained in the top-10 before making an unscheduled pit stop on Lap 446. After receiving service to his No. 5 machine Kahne returned to the track two laps down. Shortly after receiving service in the pits, Kahne made contact with another competitor which caused damage to his right-front fender and left-rear quarter panel, and brought the last caution of the race out on Lap 463. Kahne visited pit road under caution for quick repairs and closed the race out in the 20th position.
